Capcom Gears Up for More Resident Evil Remakes after Triumph with RE4

Capcom has announced plans to expand its Resident Evil remake lineup, riding the wave of success from its recent remasters, with Resident Evil 4's recent release stirring the gaming community. Yasuhiro Anpo, the Game Director for the Resident Evil 4 remake, hints at further announcements while reflecting on Capcom's ongoing efforts to revitalize classic titles with modern enhancements to gameplay and design.

Anpo expressed satisfaction with the positive reception of the remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, emphasizing the joy of introducing time-honored entries to a contemporary audience. The revitalized versions aim to blend nostalgia with innovation, giving a fresh touch while retaining their original charm. Regarded as the pinnacle of refurbished classics thus far, the Resident Evil 4 remake has set a high bar for future projects.

Anpo teased that the journey of revisiting the past through remakes is far from over; Capcom intends to reveal their next remastered project when the time is right. Fans are left to conjecture on which of the earlier games may receive the remake treatment next. Titles that might be ripe for renewal include the likes of Resident Evil 5, with its action-packed sequences, and Resident Evil 6, which has room for improvement in its gameplay mechanics. The possibilities expand to classics such as Resident Evil Code: Veronica, Resident Evil 0, and Resident Evil: Revelations, eagerly waiting for a modern revival.

Despite the excitement surrounding potential remakes, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, Producer of the Resident Evil 4 remake, reminded fans of their choice to harness the proprietary RE Engine for development purposes. This preference springs from the engine's facilitation of streamlining coordination and enhancing the development process, illustrating the company's commitment to quality.

Hirabayashi also underlined the valuable feedback loop between fans and developers, which has been an instrumental factor in the remakes' acclaim. Considering player preferences and reactions allows the team to tailor their approach, a methodology that has proved fruitful in their undertaking.

In the midst of the remake buzz, it's worth noting that Capcom remains committed to pushing boundaries with original titles like Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village, demonstrating that innovation within the franchise is still ongoing.

Resident Evil 4 is the franchise's latest hit, presently accessible on multiple gaming platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. Apple enthusiasts will also get their chance to navigate the horror with upcoming releases on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS slated for December 20.
