Elon Musk's social network, X, is set to challenge LinkedIn by offering job listings and more, as divulged in a recent post. The company has begun amassing user information on work and education histories, as well as biometric data for 'safety, security and identification purposes'. This new policy was identified by Bloomberg, and builds upon an official @TwitterHiring account already established by the company. Musk, who himself has been ridiculed for controversial posts, wants to create a 'cool' alternative to LinkedIn.
X is also gathering biometric data, without specifying kind, according to its recent privacy policy update. Verified organizations, including Workweek, have been enabling the display of job listings in the form of scrolling cards under their bios, accessible from the US.
Furthermore, the strategy of X to collect user work history, education and biometric data may ultimately serve to improve job-matching and advertising relevance. However, this approach could draw regulatory scrutiny, as X is currently under a proposed class action lawsuit for capturing biometric data without consent.
